A vessel that holds pressure is a component whose failure mode is other people.
This course works through the design of a vessel end to end: design pressure and temperature, material selection and allowable stress, shell and head thickness, nozzle openings and the reinforcement they need, flanges, supports, and the corrosion and thickness allowances that get forgotten until the wall is thinner than the calculation assumed.
Throughout, the emphasis is on presentation as much as arithmetic. A calculation nobody can follow is a calculation nobody can approve, and an engineer who cannot show their reasoning cannot sign anything.
Participants should be comfortable with statics and mechanics of materials. It suits practising engineers, final-year students and technical staff moving into design roles.
