CoMakers Africa began in 2018 as a shared workshop in Owerri — a few people, a bench, and tools they had pooled together because none of them could afford the equipment alone.
That is still the whole idea. Fabrication tools are expensive and technical knowledge is unevenly distributed. Put both in one room, open the door, and people build things: furniture businesses, irrigation systems, prosthetics, classroom kits.
We are not trying to teach anyone to be creative. People already are. We are removing the part where the tools cost more than a year’s income.
