Engineering work is judged through documents. A design that cannot be explained does not get funded, and a procedure nobody can follow does not get followed. This is a working course, not a grammar class. Participants bring real documents from their own organisation and leave having rewritten them. We cover structure — leading with the decision rather than burying it on page four — and the specific forms engineers are asked for: the technical report, the specification, the method statement, the test procedure, the proposal. We spend real time on the two failures that cost the most. Writing that hedges so thoroughly it commits to nothing, and writing pitched at the wrong reader — a specification aimed at a fellow specialist when the person who signs it is an accountant. It suits engineers at any stage, and it is the course that most often changes how a team is perceived internally.
